Production methods and application of p-Chlorobenzotrifluoride PCBTF CAS 98-56-6

p-Chlorobenzotrifluoride PCBTF is used to synthesize medicines trifluralin, butfluralin, pesticides flufenoxafen, flumizone, and carboflurane herbicides, etc.; in addition, it can also be used in the dye industry.
Production method
It is derived from p-chlorotoluene by side chain photochlorination and liquid phase fluorination:
Chlorination: Put p-chlorotoluene into a photochlorination reactor, heat it to 120-150°C, and let it react with chlorine under the irradiation of a fluorescent lamp. Take a small amount of reaction liquid every 10-15min for gas chromatography analysis. When the content of p-chlorotrichlorotoluene is greater than 90%, the reaction is stopped. The product was distilled under reduced pressure to obtain p-chlorobenzotrichlorotoluene. The yield is 90-95%.
Fluorination: Put p-chlorobenzotrichlorotoluene into the fluorination reactor, add 4-5 times anhydrous hydrogen fluoride by mole. After the temperature is raised, the reaction is carried out at 1.9-2.4 MPa until the reaction pressure no longer rises. The hydrogen chloride gas released during the reaction is absorbed by alkali, and the reactant is neutralized and steam distilled to obtain a crude product. Then atmospheric distillation obtains p-chlorobenzotrifluoride liquid with a boiling range of 138-140°C. The yield is 80-90%.
