CAS 81-13-0 corresponds to D-panthenol, also known as vitamin B5, which is the alcohol enantiomer and stable precursor of pantothenic acid. It can be converted into pantothenic acid and participate in the synthesis of coenzyme A when entering the body.

Core Basic Information
-Chinese name: D-panthenol (also known as dextropanthenol, dextropanthenol, vitamin B5)
-English name: Dexanthenol/D-Panthenol
-Molecular formula: C ₉ H ₁ NO ₉; Molecular weight: 205.25 g/mol
-Structural features: (R) – (+) -2,4-dihydroxy-N – (3-hydroxypropyl) -3,3-dimethylbutanamide
-EINECS number: 201-327-3

Physical and chemical properties
-Appearance: Colorless to slightly yellow transparent viscous liquid, hygroscopic, crystallizable at low temperatures, with a slight special odor and bitterness
-Solubility: Easily soluble in water, ethanol, methanol, and propylene glycol; Difficult to dissolve in ether, chloroform, and fats
-Density: approximately 1.20 g/cm ³ (20 ℃); Refractive index: 1.495-1.502
-Melting point: Some records indicate that it can crystallize at low temperatures (pure product melting point is about 64-69 ℃, but it is mostly a supercooled liquid at room temperature); Boiling point: 118-120 ℃
-Specific rotation: [α] ² ⁰ D+30 °~+30.5 ° (c=5, H ₂ O)

Mechanism of Action and Application Fields
-Biological mechanism: As a prodrug, it is oxidized and converted into pantothenic acid (vitamin B5) in the body, which then synthesizes coenzyme A and participates in sugar, fat, protein metabolism, and tissue repair
-Medical applications: Used to promote wound healing, protect skin and mucous membranes, and assist in the treatment of vitamin B deficiency (oral liquids, injections, ointments, etc.)
-Cosmetics application: Strong moisturizing agent, enhances skin barrier function, promotes epithelial cell growth; Improving hair gloss and reducing split hair in hair care products
-Food industry: Nutritional fortifiers used to supplement vitamin B precursors in dairy products, baked goods, etc

Safety and Storage
-Toxicity: Oral LD ₅₀ (mice) is about 15 g/kg, which is low toxicity; FDA GRAS certification (§ 182.5580)
-Irritation: May cause slight irritation to the eyes, respiratory tract, and skin (risk code R36/37/38), avoid direct contact
-Storage conditions: sealed and away from light, recommended to store at 2-8 ℃; The aqueous solution is relatively stable at pH 3.0-4.0, and long-term high-temperature heating may lead to racemization
