Brief overview of production methods of Tetrahydrofuran THF CAS 109-99-9

Industrial production first used furan as raw material, and the mixture of furfural and steam was passed into a reactor filled with zinc-chromium-manganese metal oxide (or palladium) catalyst, and the carbonyl group was removed at 400-420°C to form furan; The skeleton nickel is the catalyst, and tetrahydrofuran is produced by hydrogenating furan at 80-120°C. This method produces 1 ton of tetrahydrofuran, which consumes about 3 tons of polysaccharide aldehydes. There are many production methods developed later. The industrialized method includes 1,4-butanediol catalytic dehydration ring method, because 1,4-butanediol is made from acetylene and formaldehyde. This method is called Reppe Method); the production of tetrahydrofuran by 1,4-dichlorobutene, a by-product of the chloroprene rubber monomer chloroprene, is called the dichlorobutene method; a catalytic hydrogenation method using maleic anhydride as a raw material has been developed.
