Dimethyl phthalate ( with CAS registration number 131-11-3) can be used as a plasticizer, solvent and gelling agent for cellulose resin, vinyl resin, natural rubber and synthetic rubber. It has excellent water resistance, adhesion and film-forming properties, and high light and thermal stability. Mainly used for cellulose acetate film, varnish, cellophane, etc. The amount in cellulose acetate varnish can reach 75%, and the paint film is soft and waterproof. However, this product has low boiling point and high volatility, which brings difficulties to the use and operation, and the formed film is easy to be brittle. In addition, this product is easy to crystallize at low temperatures. These shortcomings limit its wide application. Usually used in combination with plasticizers such as diethyl phthalate (DEP) to improve the above shortcomings. Although this product is compatible with nitrocellulose, it is rarely used due to the poor quality of the product. When this product is used as a rubber plasticizer, it has no effect on the vulcanization of rubber, can shorten the mixing time and improve the plasticity of the rubber. This product is especially suitable for chloroprene rubber and nitrile rubber, and has a certain activation effect on nitrile rubber.
