As an organic synthesis solvent and intermediate, it is widely used in the production of pesticides (e.g., synthesis of amitraz and dimetraz), pharmaceuticals, synthetic leather, artificial leather, chemical fiber textiles, and solvents. It is also employed in the extraction of aromatic hydrocarbons and the electroplating industry
