1. MOF ligand: Used as a tetracarboxylic acid ligand for the synthesis of metal organic framework materials (such as PCN-222, Al PMOF, MOF-525, etc.), with high specific surface area and catalytic active sites.
2. Photocatalysis and Photodynamic Therapy: The porphyrin ring structure endows it with excellent light absorption and singlet oxygen generation ability, which is used for photocatalytic degradation, photodynamic therapy, and sensors.
3. Metal ion detection and removal: It can be used as a spectrophotometric reagent to detect metal ions such as copper and cadmium, or as a metal chelating agent.

Synthesis Overview
Usually, the target product is obtained by heating and refluxing condensation of para aldehyde benzoic acid and pyrrole in propionic acid (Adler Longo method or its improved method), followed by hydrolysis esterification.
