CAS 76-60-8 corresponds to Bromocresol Green, which is a commonly used pH acid-base indicator and biochemical analysis dye. Its molecular formula is C ₂ ₁ H ₁ ₄ Br ₄ O ₅ S, and its molecular weight is approximately 698.01.

Core Information
-Chinese name: Bromocresol Green (also known as Bromocresol Blue, 3 ‘, 3′ ‘, 5′, 5 ” – Tetrabromocresol Sulfonylphthalein)
-English name: Bromocresol Green
-Molecular formula: C ₂₁ H ₁₄ Br ₄ O ₅ S
-Molecular weight: 698.01
-Appearance: Yellow to yellow brown crystalline or powder, slightly soluble in water, soluble in ethanol, ether, and alkaline solutions
-PH color change range: 3.8 (yellow) to 5.4 (blue-green), color change point is about pH 4.5
-Main applications: acid-base titration indicator, serum albumin colorimetric determination, thin layer chromatography reagent, cell staining, and pH sensitive probe

Physical and Chemical Properties and Applications
This substance belongs to the triphenylmethane dye class, and its sodium salt solution is commonly used for spectrophotometric detection of protein concentration. It appears yellow in acidic environments (λ max ≈ 435 nm) and turns blue-green in alkaline environments (λ max ≈ 615 nm). In addition to conventional acid-base indicators, it is also widely used in clinical biochemistry (such as albumin and creatinine detection), cell viability assessment, and chromatographic separation analysis. The melting point is about 218-225 ℃, and it needs to be sealed and stored in a dry place. It is sensitive to alkali and has slight irritation. Protective equipment should be worn during operation.

Precautions
-Safety Reminder: May cause irritation to eyes, respiratory tract, and skin (R36/37/38). Avoid direct contact. If accidentally entering the eyes, rinse immediately and seek medical attention.
-Storage conditions: Store in a sealed, dark, dry place, away from alkaline substances.
-Common misconception: Although occasionally referred to as “bromocresol blue”, it is different from the abbreviation BCG and needs to be distinguished based on the context; The lower limit of its color change is sometimes referred to as 3.6 in literature, and the standard range is based on 3.8-5.4.
